Eclectic Kitchen Style Ideas
In a move away from the traditional white kitchen, we’re increasingly seeing clients opt for kitchens with a layered aesthetic of texture and colour. Gone is the clinical style we all hoped to achieve in the mid-2000’s as we now look for ways to add more personality and eclecticism to our kitchen – after all, it is the heart of the home. And what is a home without love, joy and vibrance!
Some of the key design elements we have been incorporating in to our kitchen designs include:
CONNECTION TO NATURE
Biophilic Design is integral to healthy living and Retreat Design has seen a huge demand for kitchen spaces that allow for a greater connection to the natural world. This can be achieved by using earthy elements such as wood, stone and plants as well as allowing for open servery windows and a seamless indoor/outdoor connection. Herb gardens, space & light (think skylights & large windows) and natural materials help to create a calming and organic atmosphere in the kitchen.
THE LAYERED LOOK
Eclectic kitchen style is a personal thing and finding the balance is key to creating a happy harmony in the home. Open shelving with clever lighting allows us to display treasured possessions and curate all our belongings. Injecting style with art and layered textures is also hugely popular. Whether it be a bold, tiled splashback, recycled wood beams, statement slabs of marble or quirky design elements its all about accessorising the kitchen. Here at Retreat Design we love to create kitchens with generous amounts of display shelving and integrated lights for atmosphere.
WARMTH & TEXTURE
Adding character to the kitchen with warm textural finishes is hugely popular at the moment. Ribbed timber cabinet doors, combinations of stone, marble, brick and layering of warm finishes allows for us to create a tactile and textural kitchen aesthetic. No longer do we see clients wanting such a streamlined finish but more of a layered and interesting look which feels lived in and cosy.
INTEGRATED SEATING
Always a firm favourite at Retreat Design, integrated seating in the kitchen is a must. Whether it be island bench bar stools, banquet seating to the side of the kitchen, cantilevered dining tables or seated nooks its all about gathering in the kitchen and having the felxibiltiy to dine and entertain in there. Statement chairs and stools can really add an ecelctic style to the kitchen space.
We are looking forward to seeing these trends evolve and develop over the year and love to work with clients who have a creative vision for their space.
Our cabinetry suppliers, Arrital and Arredo3 have a wonderful array of finishes and colours to chose from. If you’re interested in renovating or designing an eclectic kitchen, contact Retreat Design today or please come and visit us in the Shenton Park Showroom.
